Choose & Book is the national electronic booking service which
supports the process of referral and direct booking of appointments
by the referrer. Choose & Book combines electronic booking and
a choice of provider, place, date and time.
The 'booker' element of the solution is designed to primarily
support GPs in identifying choices for patients, by presenting
options to the patient that meet the criteria for the patient's
proposed
treatment. This can include the local district general hospital,
a NHS or independent sector treatment centre, or some other facility
able to provide the required care or treatment.
The 'resource' element of the solution is designed to interface
with secondary care scheduling systems to capture and present
to the 'booker' up to date availability of appointments for the
selected service.
HealthSystems have had extensive experience with the Choose &
Book development, including project management of the pilot projects,
working with the Department of Health and Connecting for Health,
to support independent sector providers in meeting the compliance
requirements for Choose & Book, and working with local implementation
teams to roll out the solution.
