The changes in the last 10 years in the way healthcare is (or
could be) delivered are profound. Much of this is due to medical
technology, some of it is due to eHealth. Consider what was unusual
in the 1990s, and is commonplace today.
- day surgery
- DNA testing
- non-invasive surgery
- remote telediagnosis
- PACS
- diabetes management systems
- serious efforts to establish lifetime patient records
and much, much more.
eHealth leads some of these changes but many experts believe that
changes in the next 10 years will be led by a combination of better
health informatics and eHealth technology with medical devices and IT becoming inseparable. The patient will demand
much more involvement in their health management/healthcare, and
this will face care providers with major cultural and organisational
challenges.
Consider the changes that ATMs have brought to high street banking
(for better or for worse). eHealth technology will bring similar profound
change to healthcare. Our consulting team has built up significant
expertise in eHealth and can help you take advantage of what is
good, as well as minimising those aspects that are less good.
Professor Ricky Richardson, our Clinical Director, is a leading
world expert on eHealth and leads our activity in this area.
